Freya

Freya was a 33 year old female orca who lived at Marineland Antibes. Freya was captured in Iceland in October 1982. She passed away on June 20, 2015 after battling an illness. She was the dominant orca at the park.

Freya had given birth to five calves, though only one survived. This was her son Valentin. Valentin was very close to his mother. Freya had a tumor on her side when she was younger. This was removed in the 90s. The only remains of the tumor was a white indent on her side. This made it very easy to tell her apart from the other members of the pod.

She was very close to her son. They would spend a lot of time together and often perform with each other. She had always loved calves and had helped Wikie out with her calves Moana and Keijo. Freya became a grandmother when Wikie gave birth to her son, Keijo. Sadly, Valentin passed away soon after his mother on October 12, 2015.

On June 20, 2015, Freya passed away from an unknown illness. She had been sick for several months before her death. Veterinarians and trainers attempted to treat the illness, but were unsuccessful.
