  • 9/9/21-Cookie gave birth at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park.
  • 1/9/21-According to Ningyo La Mar d'Aprop on Facebook, the official name of Wow, is Dylan. Shanghai has still not confirmed any of the whales names themselves, but it is unlikely that Goren and Kysalis are the names of the younger male and female. Nothing substantial has come of these two names to assume they are correct. (Edit: Wow/Dylan is actually named Panghu.)
  • 3/12/21-Very sad news out of Loro Parque today. They announced that Skyla, their 17 year old female orca, passed away last night after having shown signs of discomfort that day. Despite veterinarians best efforts, she succumbed to her illness. A necropsy will be performed to determine her cause of death. Our thoughts go out to everyone who cared so much about her.
  • 3/20/21-According to Ningyo La Mar d'Aprop, the other female orca is named Cookie.
  • 4/25/21-Loro Parque has released a post on their blog concerning Ula's health and some intestinal issues she appears to be experiencing. You can read the post here. We wish the best to little Ula and are hoping for a quick recovery.
  • 6/7/21-While Ula has some weight to gain back after her illness, Loro Parque has announced she has recovered from her intestinal issues she was experiencing.
  • 7/15/21-A male killer whale calf stranded in Wellington, New Zealand on July 11th. The calf has been named Toa. Originally, the calf was being cared for in a make shift sea pen, but because of bad weather in the area, the calf had been transferred into a temporary holding pool brought to the area. There has been a search since the stranding to locate any killer whales in the nearby area, but have so far been unsuccessful.
  • 7/23/21-Toa, the rescued male killer whale in New Zealand, has passed away. He died on July 23rd after deteriorating from complications due to his stranding. He had sustained injuries to his pectoral fins and flukes, as well as an infection in his eye. A necropsy was not requested by the group responsible for his rehabilitation. He had been moved back into the sea pen the day before his passing, after being placed in a temporary holding pool near the site for several days.
  • 8/10/21-Loro Parque has announce that Ula has passed away today. She began to show signs of discomfort a few days ago. Veterinarians began to assess and treat her, but unfortunately, she was unable to be saved. She had just been recovering from an intestinal issue over the last few months and had slowly recovered. A necropsy will be completed to determine her cause of death. Our thoughts are with those who care so much for Ula.
  • 8/20/21-SeaWorld San Diego has announced that Amaya passed away unexpectedly on August 19th. She started showing signs of illness the day before. Despite veterinary intervention, she was not able to be saved. At this time, it is not known what was her cause of death. Our thoughts go out to those who cared so deeply for Amaya.
  • 10/5/21-It has been announced that Springer, a Northern Resident killer whale, is pregnant with her 3rd calf. Springer was rescued in 2002 at approximately 2 years old, after her mother had passed away. She was rehabilitated and released a month after her rescue and reunited with her extended family.
  • 10/11/21-According to Ningyo La Mar d'Aprop on Facebook, there are reports that Cookie, at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park gave birth to her first calf on September 9th. Nothing has been confirmed by Shanghai. The information reported states that Cookie did not assist or bond with the calf after birth and trainers had to step in to nurse and care for the calf. The calf is also said to have sustained an injury due to swimming into a wall. At this point, there is very little information. As more information is released and confirmed, the site will be updated.
  • 12/5/21-Ula's cause of death was reported to be intestinal torsion.
  • 12/5/21-Amaya's cause of death was reported to be gastro-intestinal disease.
