Unna

Unna was an 18 year old female orca who lived at SeaWorld San Antonio. Her father is Tilikum and her mother is Katina. She was born on December 27, 1996 at SeaWorld Orlando. She passed away a few days before her 19th birthday on December 21, 2015.

Growing up, Unna spent a lot of time with Katina, Kalina, Taku and Tuar. Several births took place as Unna was growing up in Orlando, and after Ikaika was born in 2002, she was often by her mother's side assisting her. Several months after his birth though, she was transferred to Texas.

In 2006, Unna gave birth to a stillborn female calf. The calf may have been inbred since she only lived with relatives at the time, unless she had been artificially inseminated. The father has never been announced. Unna could often be seen caring for her younger half sister Sakari, who was born in 2010. Unna did very well with Sakari. She was most often seen with Takara, Sakari and Kamea, though she spent time with Kyuquot and Tuar as well. Since Takara arrived in 2009, Unna was kept separated from the males when she was cycling.

Unna enjoyed spending time with Takara and acted as an "auntie" to Takara's calves. Unna met Sakari at two weeks old and after less than a day, Takara was allowing Unna and Sakari to interact with each other. 

Unna was a dominant orca and would put the less dominant orcas in their place. Unna performed waterworks before they were stopped in 2010 and she never showed aggression towards her trainers.

In late Summer 2015, Unna came down with a strain of fungus known as Candida. After several months of intense treatment, Unna passed away on December 21, 2015 from a systemic bacterial infection.
